Friends of the Sound of Jura are from Knapdale, Argyll – an area surrounded on three sides by the sea.  Many people in these communities spend much of their work and leisure time on or by the water.

Friends of the Sound of Jura is concerned by the growing economic pressure to exploit more of the sea’s resources, which are already under severe strain, and that this will do irreparable harm to the ecosystem on which we all depend.

The group believes that sustainable use can ensure that the sea remains healthy for future generations. Education is a vital part of this growing understanding of the importance of the natural world.

As a result, the group now intends to inform and help their local community to express its opinions and to campaign more widely for marine conservation and the sustainable use of the sea we all share. Our community depends on the health of the sea that surrounds us.
